The Company

Founded in 2019, Festina Lente Productions, LLC is a small software company based in Seattle. We are currently developing Pinhole Universe. We hope for many more projects to come (:

"Festina lente" is a Latin phrase which means "make haste slowly." The turtle and dragonfly in our logo symbolize this concept. We are slow and thoughtful in order to move quickly and decisively.

My Background

At present, it is a company of one — me, John. If things go well, that will change. I have over 25 years of software development experience, though nearly every day I find myself learning new things. This is how I like it.

I have been interested in art, programming, and video games from a young age, but Pinhole Universe will be the first one made by me fully end-to-end and for public consumption. Having spent some time in the video games industry and other tech companies, Festina Lente is a few things to me: (1) a culmination of long-held dreams and (2) a modest rejection of the "move fast and break things" culture common in software development. I would rather do something well than have it done immediately, and ideas need time to develop. At the same time, perfection is not achievable — both matter. Festina lente!

Given the length of the road that has led me to this point, the amount of delays, and how much work it has been to finally build this thing, I must say I find myself seeking the favor of the Dragonfly these days more than the Turtle (: Speaking of which, I should get back to work.
